The Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged the talented people to participate in the efforts to bring Buganda back to the top.
There are many artists, especially musicians, who have been seen visiting the Embuga these days, especially in preparation for their concerts, others participating in royal ceremonies such as the luwalo, the Kabaka’s birthday, the inauguration and others.
This week alone, three artistes have represented the Embuga including Cinderella Ssanyu popularly known as Cindy, Maureen Nantume and Shafik Walukagga known as Fik Fameica. They were all given time to meet by the Chief Minister.
The Katikkiro in his address to the talented people said that the Kingdom welcomes them because it wants them to be directly involved in the efforts to bring Buganda back to the top which is directly known to aim to change the lives of people to the desired level.
“When the King gave his generation to the youth, he wanted them to lead the way in raising the image of Buganda, we want the talented to participate directly in the efforts to bring Buganda to the top by participating in the activities of their Clans.
The example he gives is that if the descendants of the Kasimba clan know they are going to pilgrimage home and hear about Shafik Walukagga or Mathias Walukagga where they are it adds to the tension in the programme. The Kingdom is committed to encouraging talented people to participate in the efforts to bring Buganda back to the top.
The Katikkiro also said that the Kingdom has plans to ensure that the work of the Artists is done in a professional manner and urged all those in the field of singing, acting, playing musical instruments and other professions that fall into the category of talent.
The Chief Minister also mentions that singing or acting is a job like rice farming, teaching or making laws which is one of the reasons why he goes to concerts to support artists as he does when he visits rice farmers, schools or companies.
“A one-person concert like this provides jobs for many people including; musicians, organisers, dancers, journalists and others which means that talents create more jobs as well as taxes for the Government” Owek. Mayiga.
The Katikkiro also urged talented artists not to flaunt fame or wealth but to do their jobs to the right standard, be patient so that they can benefit from what they do for a long time. He encourages young artists to follow their example and do quality work to benefit from it all the time.
The Kingdom of Buganda has a Ministry of Talent and Minister Robert Serwanga, who currently heads it, said the Kingdom is open to every artist to ensure that they express themselves in their culture, benefit from the Buganda population while promoting the Buganda language through music and messages.
Minister Serwanga however also urged the artists to work with other activities besides singing which he said takes a lot of money such as dressing, recording and so on. He thus urged the talented people to cultivate rice, trade and other activities and promised that the Kingdom is ready to support the talented people to benefit from what they do.
