Wol Dut Anguei denies claims of receiving $100,000 for Garang Kon’s medical treatment

Businessman Wol Dut Anguei has refuted claims made in a viral TikTok video by Garang Kon, asserting that he received only $20,000, not $100,000, as alleged.

The controversy erupted after Garang Kon, a young man suffering from a rare medical condition, either Prader-Willi Syndrome or Cushing’s Syndrome, which causes excessive weight gain and speech difficulties, claimed that he was given $100,000, with $30,000 sent home while the remaining $70,000 disappeared.

Following intense public backlash, Wol took to social media to clarify the situation. In a live broadcast, he explained that he received $20,000, which he sent $10,000 to Garang Kon’s father in Aweil through a local money transfer service, equivalent to 30 million South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) and the remaining $10,000 was spent on clothes and food for Garang Kon.

Wol further stated that President Salva Kiir had directed Tut Gatluak Manime, the former Presidential Advisor for National Security, to facilitate Garang Kon’s medical treatment abroad. However, Wol accused Tut Gatluak of disregarding the President’s orders, failing to arrange the treatment before his eventual removal from office.

According to Wol, Garang Kon may have misinterpreted the 30 million SSP as $30,000, possibly due to his medical condition affecting his cognitive abilities. He alleged that Garang Kon accepts information without question, hinting at potential mental health challenges.

Public skepticism remains high, with many demanding official documentation to verify Wol’s claims. Meanwhile, Garang Kon’s father has yet to issue a statement, and citizens continue to call for clarity from Tut Gatluak regarding whether any additional funds were allocated for Garang Kon’s treatment.
